Our 31-Day
'Tumor Humor' Challenge:
"Can We Laugh At Cancer?"

These funny memes were inspired by our founder Saranne's cancer journey and recovery. You don't have to have had cancer to share her 'Tumor Humor' and cause some HA HA HEALING®.
Read more about our Tumor Humor in Crain's New York Business.

Day #1
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āAs a cancer patient/survivor I did my friend Matthewās radio show (āStupid Cancerā) and he gave me a card that said: āThe Cancer Cardā. He told me to show it if I ever wanted to get out of something. The card was the seed of the joke.ā

Day #2
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āMy tumor markers never changed even with raging cancer but I heard everyone in the chemo room talking about their bad blood markers. PS I am a retired NYC teacher.ā

Day #3
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āWhen they gave me chemo, I heard the above phrase in my head and then one day I said it out loud to my chemo nurse and we both laughed.ā

Day #4
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āAfter being diagnosed, I will never forget making my āBucket Listā in 1999. Guess which are true?ā

Day #5
Saranne's Story Behind The Joke: āOne of my chemo sisters was obsessed with her famous oncologist but she was married so she kept trying to set us up. PS Many years later I was seated next to him at a healthā

Day #6
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āThis joke is the opposite of me. Before the pandemic, many survivors would confess to me that they enjoyed being anti-social.ā

Day #7
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āAt one point, when I had active stage IV cancer and I had not responded to treatment, some part of my body was getting scanned every 3 to 6 weeks.ā

Day #8
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āI am such a lightweight when it comes to any medication or alcohol. I get drunk after two sips. My chemo intensified this reaction.ā

Day #9
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āChemo Brain is real people! I had to make fun of it for this challenge because when I was diagnosed two decades ago the medical community had not validated the side effects yet.ā

Day #10
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āWigs are expensive and once my hair grew back many women wanted my wig collection. My grandmother and I had cancer very young. My mom had red hair too so that led me to this thought process.ā

Day #11
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āI have always been obsessed with the journey of the 5 stages of grief. Everyone goes through at least a few of the stages.ā

Day #12
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āSince I was so young people would always think I was talking about astrology when I used the word 'cancer'. (I have so many funny dating stories from when I was on cancer treatment.)ā

Day #13
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āI was extremely positive during my cancer journey, which annoyed some, but yes... even I got tested.ā

Day #14
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āI have always been fearless. Cancer gave me the excuse to be even more daring. Which one would you do first?ā

Day #15
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āI continue to explore this concept of 'The Cancer Card'. Everyone knows someone who is braver than you. They try to motivate you by challenging you. Sometimes you just want to be a martyr.ā

Day #16
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āI became friends with two of my female therapists - which is a bit of a boundary breach - so this joke is an exaggeration of that situation. PS It was really helpful to go for counseling right after my cancer diagnosis.ā

Day #17
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āColonoscopies are dreadfully awkward but I saw many comedic moments, especially when they were very enthusiastic about showing me extensive films of my colon.ā

Day #18
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āI donāt know about you but at times āChemo Brainā feels like a huge case of ADD. I have friends who have switched jobs while on a chemo regimen and they reported that their excitement during the job interview, mixed with chemo, made it hard to stay focused.ā

Day #19
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āI had several close friends who could not cope with my cancer diagnosis and prognosis. I understood and we are still friends today however many patients do not forgive their friends who go MIA. When I heard the statistics, I thought this is a playful way to reconnect.ā

Day #20
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āBefore I started chemo, I heard so many horror stories. This joke is a play off of one of the warnings.ā

Day #21
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āI am combining two things here. First, when I was on chemo I had very little patience for long drawn-out stories. Second, a friend of mine worked in a jewelry store as a teenager and he used to make up jewelry phrases to explain a piece of jewelry. He said he sold more jewelry when he made-up phrases. I always thought that was mischievous but funny.ā

Day #22
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āSo many people end and start relationships as a result of their cancer journey. I did.ā

Day #23
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āOne of my chemo cocktails was $1,200 a day and I did chemo for over two years, and as many as three times a day.ā

Day #24
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āI had to learn to delegate and ask for help when I was diagnosed.ā

Day #25
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āI actually did (and do) so many complementary medicine practices. I was diagnosed with stage IV cancer, what did I have to lose? There is a lot of humor in the discovery process.ā

Day #26
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: āI have helped a lot of people through AA and NA. This is just a clever joke.ā

Day #27
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: Hair loss can be traumatic. It is fun to take a pain point and mash it up with something culturally relevant.

Day #28
Saranneās Story Behind The Joke: This is my most risque joke but it is true⦠My husband does not care.
